From University of Rochester Athletics

University of Rochester women's basketball graduate forward Katie Titus was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) First-Team Academic All-American® as well as a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Award.

Titus, the fourth Academic All-American in UR program history, earns her second-consecutive Academic All-America honor after being named a CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-America and a First-Team All-District selection in 2021-22. The Penfield, NY native is also just the second First-Team Academic All-American in women's basketball program history and the first since Jody Lavin in 1980.

Titus is also the fifth Jostens Finalist in school history, and the third in women's basketball program history. Most recently, Alexandra Leslie was a finalist in both 2017 and 2018, while on the men's side, Seth Hauben, John DiBartolomeo and Sam Borst-Smith earned recognition in 2005, 2013 and 2017, respectively.

A 2022-23 First-Team All-University Athletic Association selection and the D3hoops.com Region 3 Player of the Year, Titus appeared in all 25 games, making 24 starts, leading the 'Jackets in scoring, shooting, rebounding and steals. The 6-0 forward averaged 21.4 points per game on 52.0 percent shooting, adding 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.9 blocks per game.

"Katie made an incredible impact for our program this past year, both academically and athletically," Head Coach Jim Scheible said. "She was our true leader in many ways on the court and was a role model in the classroom. I am very excited that she has earned recognition for this prestigious award!"

Titus tallied nine double-doubles, and scored in double figures in all but three contests, scoring a career-high 39 points in the 'Jackets' win vs. Brandeis on Feb. 17, the second-most points in a game in program history. Titus also earned All-Tournament honors at UR's Chuck Resler Tournament in November, as well as Tournament MVP honors at the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.

Titus also led the conference in scoring by more than 3.0 points per game, ranking in the top-5 in the UAA in 13 different categories and ranked in the top-15 in the country in points, points per game and field goals, tallying 534 points, the third-most points in a season in program history.

The graduate forward also ranks in the top-10 in program history in six other single-season categories, ranking fourth in field goals made and fifth in scoring average, sixth in three-point and field goals attempted and ninth in three-point field goals made.

A four-time UAA Athlete of the Week and a two-time D3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree, Titus also cleared both the 2,000 career-point mark and the 1,000 career-rebound mark, tallying her 2,000th career points against NYU, and her 1,000th career rebound vs. Emory.

Off the court, Titus earned her bachelor's degree in childhood and special education from Daemen College and is currently pursuing her master's in reading and literacy at the Warner School of Education. A 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Top-30 finalist, Titus is also a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, previously interned at Pencils of Promise, is currently interning at Project Read, a Rochester inner-city literary initiative and volunteers at Rochester School #33 and East High School.

The Jostens Trophy honors - one for men's basketball and one for women's basketball - are national awards created by the Rotary Club of Salem and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The awards focus on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2023 season marks the 25th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.

The finalists will now be reviewed by the Jostens Trophy National Selection Committee. The committee is composed of men and women from across the country. The committee features current and former athletic administrators and head coaches, past Jostens Trophy recipients, and select members of the Division III media. The committee will spend the next two weeks reviewing the nominees with the aim of announcing the two winners on Thursday, March 23.

The 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America® Women's Basketball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average at his or her current institution.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
