No. 18 UChicago Mounts Second-Half Comeback to Defeat Carnegie Mellon in Overtime

University of Chicago's 18th-ranked women's basketball program secured a come-from-behind 84-78 overtime victory over Carnegie Mellon University on Friday evening in University Athletic Association (UAA) action.

The Maroons (19-4, 8-4 UAA) trailed by 17 in the first half, but outscored CMU 35-24 over the final two quarters to force overtime. Mallory Brodnik scored the game-tying layup with 1.8 seconds left in regulation. Grace Hynes and Ellie Gross then combined for 12 of UChicago's 16 points in the extra frame, propelling the Maroons to the six-point win.

Hynes did it all on the offensive end, totaling 28 points while adding five rebounds and three assists. Gross made a 'dagger' three in overtime and finished with 15 points while dishing out seven assists. Brodnik was also in double-digits with 13 points and was tied for a team-high seven rebounds. Sophia North totaled 11 points in 39 minutes.

As a team, UChicago shot 69.7 from the free throw line, going 23-for-33. The Maroons forced 25 turnovers from the Tartans while limiting their own turnovers to just 10.
