UChicago Edges Past WashU on Senior Day

The University of Chicago 14th-ranked women's basketball program defeated WashU 71-63 at home in University Athletic Association (UAA) play to close out its 2022-23 regular season campaign. 

Grace Hynes scored 31 points to lead the offensive effort and now needs just eight points to reach the 1,000-point milestone for her career. Ellie Gross poured in 23 points in support on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. 

Saturday's contest doubled as Senior Day, in which UChicago's 2023 class of Isabelle Herrera, Mallory Brodnik, Ashley Gao, Peyton Van Soest and Hynes were honored with a pregame ceremony. 

UChicago trailed 10-2 early, but edged within three points at the end of the first. The Maroons then went on a pivotal 22-13 run in the second quarter and were able to maintain their lead into the fourth quarter. After a tie at 62-62, the hosts went on a 9-1 run to close out the game.

The strong defense of UChicago was on display as the Maroons limited WashU to 43.5 shooting from the field and just 3-of-15 from deep.
