Violets Finish Competition at Penn Invitational

The New York University women's fencing team won two out of six matches on the second and final day of competition at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational on Sunday, January 19, in Philadelphia, PA.

The Violets defeated Drew University (19-8) and Wayne State University (18-9). They suffered some tough losses to Ohio State University (23-4), the University of Notre Dame (25-2), Yale University (24-3), and St. John's University (19-8)

Chiara Codazzi (Rome, Italy/St. Stephens) led the team with an overall record of 11-7. This included perfect 3-0 records against Drew and Wayne State.

In epee, Anna Lanzman (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant) recorded eight wins while Rachel Wu (Palo Alto, CA/Shanghai American School (China)) added six.

Chloe Chen (Lumberton, NJ/Moorestown Friends) tallied a team leading five victories in sabre.

"We had a couple of nice wins over the weekend, said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "The experience going against some of the best teams in the country will help our young team gain experience as we move forward."
