Brandeis University rookie Maggie Shealy (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had one of the best finishes in recent memory at the 2020 Junior Olympics in Columbus, Ohio, placing 13^th overall out of 227 competitors in the sabre competition.

Shealy went 4-1 in pool play, allowing just eight touches to win her pool. That garnered her the 50^th seed in the direct elimination. After receiving a first-round bye, she defeated the #178 seed, 15-9, in the second round. In the round of 64, she defeated the 15^th seed and 34^th-ranked fencer Maverick Doherty from Southern California, 15-8, to advance to the fourth round. In the round of 32, she defeated another New England fencer, Natalie Mataiev, 15-11, to reach the Sweet 16. Shealy just missed a berth in the quarterfinals, falling to Erika Chin of St. Louis, 15-14.
