From Brandeis University Athletics

Brandeis University rookie Maggie Shealy (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had one of the best finishes in recent memory at the 2020 Junior Olympics in Columbus, Ohio, placing 13th overall out of 227 competitors in the sabre competition.

Shealy went 4-1 in pool play, allowing just eight touches to win her pool. That garnered her the 50th seed in the direct elimination. After receiving a first-round bye, she defeated the #178 seed, 15-9, in the second round. In the round of 64, she defeated the 15th seed and 34th-ranked fencer Maverick Doherty from Southern California, 15-8, to advance to the fourth round. In the round of 32, she defeated another New England fencer, Natalie Mataiev, 15-11, to reach the Sweet 16. Shealy just missed a berth in the quarterfinals, falling to Erika Chin of St. Louis, 15-14.
