Yellowjackets Finish 7th At UAA Championships

The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team closed out the 2020 UAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday by finishing in seventh place with a team total of 565 points.
 
On the final day of competition, the Yellowjackets produced four qualifiers into the finals, three top-16 finishers in the 1650 freestyle and a strong 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet.
 
One of Rochester's leaders on the day was Erica Hughes.  Hughes qualified 12th in the 200 backstroke in the morning prelims in 2:05.39 and ended 13th in the 'B' final during the evening session with a time of 2:05.98.  Teammate Kelsey Bartlett also qualified to swim in the evening and touched with a time of 2:07.51, nearly identical to her prelim time and wound up in 21st place overall.
 
Hughes also was a part of UR's 400 freestyle relay squad which finished in seventh place.  The team of Caitlynn Weeden, Sofia Guarnieri, Hughes and Maggie Brennan clocked in at 3:35.48.

During the 1650 freestyle event, Emily Brzac led a trio of scorers for the Yellowjackets in the finals only event.  She finished 19th in 18:38.76.  Abby Werwaiss ended 20th (18:46.59) and Maya Doll was 24th (19:18.95).
 
UR's other finals qualifiers on the final day were Monica Jackson in the 200 breaststroke and Meirav Flatte in the 200 butterfly.  Jackson finished 17th, shaving over five seconds off her prelim time, finishing in 2:24.16.  Flatte's finals time of 2:14.51 earned her 23rd place overall, after she was seeded 21st after a 2:13.67 swim during the prelims.
