UChicago Women’s Tennis Shuts Out CWRU in UAA Semifinals

From University of Chicago Athletics

The University of Chicago women's tennis team blazed through the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship semifinals with a 5-0 victory against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon

The No. 1-ranked Maroons (17-1 record) won their 17th-straight match. The No. 12-ranked Spartans fell to 15-3.

UChicago and Case Western Reserve previously matched up against each other back in late February, where the Maroons came away with a 9-0 victory.

Saturday's rematch followed the same script. The Maroons swept all three doubles positions – 8-6 at No. 1 (Sylwia Mikos/Shianna Guo); 8-3 at No. 2 (Claudia Ng/Eugenia Lee); and 8-1 at No. 3 (Lauren Park/Nicole Geller).

UChicago was up a set at all six singles spots when first-year Miranda Yuan (No. 5) and Park (No. 6) claimed the fourth and fifth team points, ending the match. Since the contest was played to decision, the remaining bouts went unfinished.

The Maroons advance to the UAA Championship title match for the seventh time in program history. They will take on No. 4-ranked Emory University in Sunday morning's final. UChicago previously claimed UAA titles in 2010 and 2012.
