From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Hannah Kassaie was named the College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for women's tennis, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Kassaie is only the second student-athlete in CWRU history to earn the honor and the first in 26 years, after former Spartan Jim Fox was selected in 1997 for men's basketball. She is the first member of a Case Western Reserve women's team to receive the distinction.

A nutrition major with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average, Kassaie won the Elite 90 Award at the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships for having the highest GPA at the championship site. On the court, she advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket at the national championship to earn All-America honors, the furthest run of any Spartan in program history. In addition, she earned All-America honors in doubles play by earning the second seed in the doubles championship.

A four-time All-American and four-time All-University Athletic Association First Team selection, Kassaie went 21-3 (.875) in singles play and 21-6 (.778) in doubles play this season. In two seasons with CWRU, she has compiled a 44-6 (.880) singles record and 37-11 (.771) doubles record. Her career winning percentages in both singles and doubles play are the highest of any player in program history with at least 30 wins.

Kassaie was also named to the CSC Academic All-America First Team, earning her first career Academic All-America honor.

During the 2022-23 campaign, the CWRU women's tennis team (15-6) reached the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and had two players receive invitations to the individual championships.
