The University of Chicago women's tennis team defeated New York University 5-0 in the semifinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday afternoon.
The No. 1-ranked Maroons (18-0 record) will next play in Saturday morning's UAA championship final versus No. 7-ranked Emory University. The No. 18-ranked Violets dropped to 10-2.
For the second-straight day, UChicago jumped out to a commanding 3-0 advantage in doubles play. The Maroons won their matches by scores of 8-3, 8-5 and 8-6.
With only two singles victories needed to clinch early, UChicago delivered both in rapid fashion. Shianna Guo shut out her No. 2 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0. Claudia Ng then clinched at No. 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
