Three singles players and one doubles team each posted a pair of wins to move onto the semifinals at the William Smith Mary Hosking Invitational on Saturday afternoon during day one of competition.

The tournament opens up the 2023-24 tennis season for the University of Rochester women's team.

Sophomore Neha Dania went a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles play to lead the Yellowjackets. Junior Josephine Libby and first-year Lauren Kallas each added two wins in the A and B singles main draw and still remain alive for the crowns in their respective flights.

Dania competed in the C singles draw and earned a pair of 8-3 wins to advance. In round one she defeated Abigail Rockwood and followed that up with a defeat of Meredith Macey.

In doubles, Dania and classmate Sanjana Karnam won 8-4 over Ava Casell and Madeleine Sutro in round one before topping Kira Kronenberg and Jacqueline Drozd 8-3 to reach the semifinals.

Libby earned a pair of hard-fought wins in the A singles flight. In the opening match she won 8-4 over Natalie Pipes. Afterwards, the 2021 All-American dispatched Alys Pop by an 8-6 score. Karnam also competed in the A singles draw and won her opening match over Alexander Galle 8-3 before falling in round two.

Kallas is the last UR player standing in the B singles flight after her two wins. She topped Abby Murray by a perfect 8-0 score in round one and reached the semifinals after winning 8-5 over Gabriella Gatto.

In other B flight play, Jasmin Toor was defeated in the opening round 8-6 by Ava Casell, but rebounded with a consolation match win over Samantha Rava. Stephanie Kim encountered a similar fate in her singles matches in the C flight, winning a consolation match after falling in the opening round of the main draw. Her defeat was a tight 8-7 (6) affair against Kendall Curley, while she earned an 8-1 win in her second match.

Both UR singles players in the D flight earned wins in the opening round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals. Jaclyn Drron won 8-1 over Erica Muscato before falling in the next round to Kayla Shenk by the same 8-1 score. Miriana Kelly posted an 8-3 win over Elena DeRiso to open her schedule, but was defeated 8-1 by Maya Stepic in the second round.

In doubles, UR's Libby and Kallas paired together in another A flight team and won their opening round over Abby Murray and Maya Clinard 8-2. In the second match, Ariane and Yvette Karera edged out the Yellowjacket pair with an 8-6 win.

During the B doubles bracket, the team of Dron and Toor also were winners in the opening round, scoring an 8-1 win over Alessandra Agnello and Victoria Cioni. During the quarterfinals, the UR team was dropped by Claire Langille and Skylar Semon to be eliminated from the competition.
