Five UAA Teams Earn Berths in 2022 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship

UAA champion Emory University was joined by Washington University, NYU, Carnegie Mellon University, and University of Chicago in the 2022 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship field.

Emory/Carnegie Mellon

Emory and Carnegie Mellon are each in the 18th-ranked Transylvania University region. 

The No. 6 ranked Eagles (21-6), who come in as the top ranked team in the region, will take on Bethany College (17-12) in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. This marks the Eagles 26th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and head coach Jenny McDowell has been at the helm of each of the 26 appearances.

The Tartans (20-8) will face Southern Virginia University (27-7) in the final regional quarterfinal. Carnegie Mellon is making its second appearance in the national tournament under the direction of four-year head coach Anne Bock, and the eighth overall appearance in program history.

Transylvania (25-5) is matched up with Randolph-Macon (23-6) with the winner of that match set to play the winner of the Eagles and Bison contest in the second round on Friday. The only other ranked team in the region is No. 10 Berry (23-4) who plays Covenant (21-11) in the first round. 

NYU

NYU posted a 25-6 overall record and 6-1 mark during regular season UAA play. The Violets won their second straight UAA regular season title and finished third at the UAA Championship this past weekend. The Violets are currently tied for sixth in the AVCA national rankings and ranked first in Region IV in the NCAA's regional rankings.

NYU will take on Westfield State University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at a regional hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

UChicago

The Maroons will be headed to sunny Claremont, California to take on Texas Lutheran in an opening round matchup. UChicago will play in an eight-team pod, hosted by No. 1 overall-seed Claremont-Mudd Scripps. The Maroons, if victorious, would take on the winner of Trinity-Puget Sound on Friday.

On the other side, CMS will match up with Fontbonne, of which the winner will take on the winner of UC Santa Cruz and Texas-Dallas. Both winners of Friday's match will advance to the regional championship on Saturday.

WashU

WashU finished second at the UAA championship and will travel to Calvin, Michigan for its eight-team regional. The Bears (29-5) will play Millikin (23-10) in the opening round. The winner of that match will face the winner of the matchup between perennial NCAA tournament participants Wittenberg (23-4) and Hope (21-7).

Host Calvin (25-3) faces Aurora (22-9) with the other quarterfinal match featuring UW-Oshkosh (30-5) and Otterbein (23-5).

All regional winners will advance to Pittsburgh for the national quarterfinals Nov. 16-19.
