Sara Rogers of CWRU Named to Academic All-America Third Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Sara Rogers, a senior setter on the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team, was named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America Third Team.

Rogers becomes the fifth CWRU volleyball player to be named an Academic All-American. She is the first since Karley King was named to the First Team in 2019 and 2018. Carolyn Bogart (First Team, 2015), Tricia McCutchan (First Team, 2011, 2010; Second Team, 2009), and Lindsay Dyer (Second Team, 2000) are the other Spartan volleyball players to be named Academic All-Americans.

It is the first career Academic All-America selection for Rogers.

Since the program's inception, a total of 99 Case Western Reserve student-athletes have been named Academic All-Americans, compiling 138 selections. Rogers is the sixth Spartan to earn Academic All-America honors for the 2022-23 academic year, joining Elizabeth White, Anika Washburn, and Helina VanBibber of the women's soccer team and Alex Lippiatt and Matt Vatne of the men's soccer team.

Rogers, a first-time Academic All-District honoree this season, played in every set for CWRU in 2022, averaging 4.75 assists and 2.06 digs per set. She totaled 470 assists, 204 digs, and 20 service aces during the season, recording at least 10 assists and 10 digs in nine matches. For her career, she compiled 1,511 assists, 664 digs, and 52 service aces, averaging 5.51 assists and 2.42 digs per set. Rogers, a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree, has a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a Biology major. She is also a two-time member of the CWRU Van Horn Society, which recognizes student-athletes with at least a 3.80 cumulative GPA with junior or senior standing.

The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. The Division III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions III Academic All-America programs.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution, and be selected to an Academic All-District team.

Case Western Reserve ended its season with a record of 22-6, its most wins since the 2015 season and its best winning percentage in the Head Coach Karen Farrell era.
