UChicago Splits with Carnegie Mellon, Rochester to Open UAA Championship

University of Chicago's women's volleyball program split its competitions with
Carnegie Mellon and Rochester on Friday to open its weekend at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. 

The Maroons fell in dramatic fashion to CMU in five sets before downing Rochester in straight sets in the night cap.

Carnegie Mellon

Both sides traded the opening two frames with convincing wins as CMU took set one 25-15 before UChicago claimed a set two victory 25-11. The Maroons continued to surge in the third set with a 25-20 win, but CMU took the final two frames, 25-23 and 17-15, to secure the victory.

Maggie McInerney paced the offensive effort with 14 kills and added 16 digs for a double-double. Cami Cox hit a team-high .226 with 10 kills while Ellie Alden chipped in nine kills. Maya Patel dished out 39 assists and added 14 digs to facilitate the attack. 

Klaudia Barbarossa and Julia Craig anchored the back line with 16 and 21 digs, respectively. The defeat for UChicago then pitted the Maroons against Rochester.

Rochester

UChicago bounced back with a sweep of Rochester, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23, respectively. McInerney continued to fire on all cylinders offensively, racking up 17 kills. Diya Mishra also had double-digit kills, posting a .280 attack percentage on 12 kills.
